About luo han guo

A round brown dried gourd, hollow and light, that is intensely sweet without sugar. Sold whole, and separately as the dried flower and as a powder. This pack is 50 g net. At the quantities below that is about 2 pots. That works out at S$15.60 per 100 g.

Also known as monk fruit, lo han kor, buddha fruit, 罗汉果, siraitia grosvenorii.

What people use it for

The sweetener in a pot of cooling tea: crack one, drop the shell and flesh in, and it sweetens two litres by itself. Also brewed with dried lemon, chrysanthemum or hawthorn.

How to prepare it

Crack one fruit, put the whole thing including the shell into 1.5 to 2 litres of water and simmer 20 to 30 minutes. Half a fruit is enough for one big mug.

Keeping it

Somewhere dry. Keep them whole until the day you use them.
