Lotus root dried into slices, or lotus leaf and lotus core dried for brewing. The root is starchy and mild; the leaf and core are bitter and used sparingly. This pack is 100 g net. At the quantities below that is about 5 pots of soup. That works out at S$5.50 per 100 g.
Also known as lian ou, lotus root slices, he ye, 莲藕, lotus leaf tea.

Dried lotus root goes into pork rib soup and into the lotus root, water chestnut and cane soup. Lotus leaf is brewed as a tea or used to wrap rice.
Root: soak 30 minutes, simmer 1 hour. Leaf or core: a teaspoon per mug, 5 minutes, and expect it to be bitter.
Airtight and dry.
Different. Dried is firmer and the soup is clearer; fresh is crunchier. For a long-boiled soup most people cannot tell.
At the quantity in the instructions above, about 5 pots of soup from this pack.
This one works out at S$5.50 per 100 g. One Sunny lists most items in more than one size, so compare that figure rather than the pack price.
