About burdock

Dried, usually roasted burdock root in thin rings. It brews a clear tan colour and tastes earthy and slightly sweet, like a mild roasted vegetable. This pack is 300 g net. At the quantities below that is about 60 brews. That works out at S$6.63 per 100 g.

Also known as gobo, niu bang, burdock root tea, 牛蒡茶, dried burdock slices.

What people use it for

Brewed as a hot or cold tea, or added to a pot of soup with carrot and pork rib.

How to prepare it

Six to eight slices per mug, just-boiled water, 5 minutes. For a jug, a handful in a litre, simmered 10 minutes and chilled.

Keeping it

Airtight. Roasted root goes soft in humid air and loses its aroma.
