About astragalus root
Flat pale-yellow slices of dried astragalus root with a mild, faintly sweet taste that comes out over a long boil. This pack is 250 g net, wild rather than farmed. At the quantities below that is about 25 pots of soup.
Also known as huang qi, bei qi, milk vetch root, 黄芪, 北芪, radix astragali.
What people use it for
A standard soup root, usually with dang shen, red dates and wolfberries in a chicken or pork rib soup. Also sold pre-portioned as tea sachets.
How to prepare it
Five to eight slices in a family pot, simmered an hour, then strained out before serving.
Keeping it
Airtight and dry.
