About wolfberries
Small dried red berries, sweet and slightly tangy, soft rather than crisp when they are fresh stock. The Ningxia ones are the standard for size and sweetness; the wild black ones are a different, smaller berry that colours water purple. This pack is 100 g net, a premium grade, wild rather than farmed. At the quantities below that is about 20 brews. That works out at S$6.91 per 100 g.

What people use it for
Perhaps the most-used dried ingredient in a Singapore kitchen: a handful into any soup in the last ten minutes, into steamed chicken, into porridge, into a mug with red dates and chrysanthemum, or eaten dry by the spoonful.
How to prepare it
No soaking needed. Add a tablespoon at the end of cooking - long boiling makes them mushy and the soup cloudy. For a drink, a teaspoon per mug in just-boiled water, 5 minutes.

Do I need to wash wolfberries first?
A quick rinse is normal, but they do not need soaking. Put them in near the end of cooking.
What is the difference between red and black wolfberries?
Different plants. The red Ningxia berry is the sweet one used in soups; the wild black berry is smaller, less sweet, and releases a purple-blue colour into water, which is what it is bought for.
Why have mine gone hard and stuck together?
Humidity. Keep the bag sealed or move them to the fridge - it is the standard fix here.
